It is our great pleasure to introduce you to our keynote speakers for the 2017 Conference:
Dr. William (Bill) Ballhaus
Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President
Bill Ballhaus is Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Blackboard.
Prior to joining Blackboard in 2016, Bill was President and CEO of SRA International, where he fostered a culture of innovation that emphasized anticipating customer needs. He was responsible for enhancing the company’s portfolio in cyber security, cloud computing, mobilization, agile system development, ERP and data analytics.
Previously, Bill was President and CEO of DynCorp International, a global government services provider. He has also held senior leadership positions at BAE Systems, Boeing and Hughes, leading their global technology businesses.
Bill is deeply committed to leveraging Blackboard’s innovative technologies and services in order to partner with the global education community and enable student and institutional success. Blackboard’s core values of integrity, excellence, innovation and accountability resonate deeply with Bill. As a third-generation aerospace engineer, he learned early on the importance of leading with absolute integrity, without fear of failure, and with a focus on solving customers’ toughest challenges. At Blackboard, these values translate into helping learners, educators, institutions and companies thrive in a complex and changing environment.
Bill holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Davis. He holds a Master of Science and Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA.
President, Blackboard International
Lee Blakemore is President of Blackboard International. In this role, he is responsible for sales, marketing and operations to support the company's global growth outside the United States and Canada. Lee is a successful enterprise software and services executive with over 20 years of experience building teams and solutions with a focus on sales, and including operations, marketing, professional services, product strategy and project management.
Prior to joining Blackboard in 2015, Lee served as the SVP of Global Sales at Velocity where he was responsible for all field operations including sales, offering management, marketing, and customer relations. Prior to joining Velocity, Lee worked at IBM for nine years, where he held the role of Vice President of Worldwide Sales for multiple software businesses. Also while at IBM, Lee served as Director of European Sales during which he helped launch the company’s Application on Demand business in Europe. Prior to this, Lee held various sales leadership positions at Corio, a cloud-based ERP solution acquired by IBM. Earlier in his career, Lee worked for Paymentor, a UK-based online accounts receivable solution and Scala Business Solutions, a Swedish ERP software company.
Lee holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Westminster College.

With a background in student services, academic advising, wellness, technology, and communications, Eric focuses his energies on educating clients and captivating audiences. As the Student Affairs and Technology blogger for Inside Higher Ed, he generates conversations, answers questions, and provides insight about a variety of "tech topics."
Living in London and working globally, he knows too many education acronyms, drinks a lot of coffee, enjoys running, and spends a lot of time writing, speaking, and thinking about social media, education, and technology.
Eric is a former Academic Advisor & Web Coordinator for the College of Health and Human Sciences at Oregon State University. He served previously as a Marketing Specialist for Student Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He received an AA from Indian Hills Community College, a BA in Communications from the University of Northern Iowa, and an Ed.M. in College Student Services Administration from Oregon State University. Prof. Leonardo Caporarello, PhD
Director of BETA (Bocconi Education and Teaching Alliance) at Bocconi University, and SDA Professor of Leadership and Negotiation
He has studied at the Bocconi University (Milan, Italy), Luiss University (Rome, Italy), Harvard Law School (Boston, USA).
His main research and teaching topics are in the fields of management educational learning processes, and organizational transformation and change management. Leonardo has a long and wide experience on graduate and executive education programs. He is also a faculty member of the Bocconi Mumbai International School of Business. Leonardo has published in journals and books, at both national and international levels. His latest publication is "Caporarello, L., Inesta, A. (2016) Make blended learning happen: conditions for a successful change process in higher education institutions, EAI Transactions on e-Learning, 12(3)"; and the forthcoming publication is "Caporarello et al. E-learning effectiveness from a students’ perspective: an empirical study, Springer".
